Museum Reviews

If you want to learn about sum of your black history then this id the place
The founder of the City of Chicago and more. This is a great place to visit.
My sorority sisters and I spent MLK Day at DuSable honoring Dr. King. It was great to see so many families of all races coming together, braving the brutally cold weather to pay respect to Dr. King at the DuSable Museum. I was honored with a quick after-hours tour of the children's area. It is a must-see! Go, join, and celebrate Black history, American history.
We had a wonderful time visiting the DuSable Museum. The kids area was amazing and way exceed what we imagined. The kids section had a baby area, little jungle gym, great book selection, SALON!, fun stationary bikes, and a restaurant/ grocery area. Our kids (7, 6, &1) enjoyed playing and then enjoyed walking through the exhibit areas. A great mix of pictures, videos, artifacts, and can’t forget the Harold Washington robotic. Staff and security were very kind and welcoming. We spent about an hour here. Would definitely come back.
Great place to visit if you haven't been in a while. Take the kids.
Enjoyed my visit here. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I learned a lot in the exhibits, but recommend starting downstairs and then moving upstairs. The lower level has most of the enslavement and Civil Rights history, so it can bring up a lot of emotions. The upper level is different in that it displays art, photography, and prominent figures that tell stories of progress and hope. I went with another adult, but there was a small section for young children on the upper level as well. The museum is not large, it took us about 1.5 hours to go all the way through. I would be interested in going back as exhibits change. There was enough free parking in the lot, but spaces would likely be limited on a busy day.
Amazing museum highlighting key elements of Black history in Chicago! Loved it. Small enough to take 1-2 hours to visit. Definitely check it out!
Small museum but the exhibit on when MLK visited Chicago in 1066 was well done. They had a book fair and discussion while we weee there so the audio visuals near the discussion had been turned off. I grew up visiting the museum as a child and hadn’t been back in over 20 years. It was great for my young kids to visit the kids section, draw themselves, and think about what makes people different and the same.I hope in the future they add an exhibit specifically about the founder of Chicago and museum namesake: Jean Baptiste Point DuSable.
I was attending a function there. It is a very beautiful, interesting cultural space to be in. I loved it.
Have been visiting this museum since 1993. Wonderful exhibits, wonderful staff.
Beautiful Museum and a Historic location. Urban Grind TV WON Best Music TV Show 📺 here at the Chicago Music Awards 🎶
They hosted an outdoor concert event with a live band(s), vendors (food trucks and booths of food cuisine and activities for the younger ones. The weather was nice and the variety of vendors was also nice. Black authors, clothiers and various artifacts some made directly from the motherland. I definitely enjoyed myself.
Great Museum on a beautiful park! go during the day and take a nice walk!!
Great experience!!!! Valuable information about Black history. The staff was OUTSTANDING!!!
Having not been to the DuSable Black History Museum & Education Center in over 3 decades I decided to visit. I was greeted by Keisha and Tiara who we had the brightest smiles and encouraged me to visit again. This is a 💎 of gems 💎 a must visit for locals and those near and far.
I didn’t take many photos but great museum!! Great information, artifacts, art, history of Chicago, very cool. Also a good amount of security.
Free Visit’s are on Wednesday’s and this is a very important Museum on Chicago’s south side and there is so much to learn more about Black History!
The museum is a small local labor of love. There were 5 discrete exhibits the day I visited. As it was my first visit to Chicago, I loved the Chicago-specific exhibits as they helped me feel more understanding for the city and the people of Chicago. History has a powerful ability to help us situate ourselves in the present. That context is so vital. We found the staff very helpful in situating us in the museum; the attendent at the front desk gave us a wonderful overview of the museum's offerings. These included an interesting mix of art, artifacts, and mixed media reinactment. The museum is experimenting with different aspects of technology to bring history to life for it's visitors. Some things work better than others but the efforts in all cases demonstrate the museum's dedication to capturing the imagination and attention of those who walk through the doors. It was a worthy stop in my Chicago tour.
Our family loves stopping to explore history visits and immediately made a decision to add this to the top of the list. Glad we did.We are museum members at our home museum which have reciprocal privileges in various states that you can use your membership on. This was one of them. Our admission was free.Parking on the side of the building was also free. Friendly customer service here well. We had a great educational time.
