Museum Reviews
It was fantastic! Very informative and Dr.Carver was an amazing man. Soybean car parts in 1941 with Henry Ford.
Man oh man!!! LOVE THIS MUSEUM!!Artifacts galore!! Personal artifacts!! There are plenty of interactive spots and the history is rich, so very rich! Go to this museum, take your kids, grandkids etc... This man was literally "the black Leonardo". His life was so full of accomplishment it makes you sit back and ask yourself if you are living your full potential.
I enjoyed the museum. Make sure you stop by the security office first to get a parking pass in order to park on campus. The information was clearly presented and very interesting. I learned some things, and definitely recommend this. The ranger at the desk was very friendly and helpful.
We learned so much history here and they had 3 different Junior Ranger Badges and a Junior Ranger patch for their JR programs. The Park Ranger was very nice and informative. I recommend others coming here. They have 3 different Passport stamps for the National Passport Stamp book also. You can get 2 different badges at the Tuskegee Airman Museum just down the road also.
Very nice museum to visit. Very difficult to find. There are no signs for the museum or for parking or how to get a pass to get on campus. You have to be very persistent and ask a lot of questions to find the place.
For anyone coming to the museum, you have to come in the southwest side. You will then need to drive down to security the building to the left at the stop light then once you get your pass. At the stop light drive through the gates and drive down to hotel and park behind the building in the parking garage.
So inspiring!!! Go! You won't regret it! Then walk around Tuskegee University because it's so pretty and is full of history!
I highly recommend this museum which is run by the National Park Service... George Washington Carver was such an amazing man. It was so interesting to learn of the hundreds of contributions & discoveries he made. The museum is small but staffed by several knowledgeable people who were eager to help us learn about GWC. The museum is located on the campus of the Tuskegee Institute. We also enjoyed walking around the campus & learning about the school's history. Highly Recommend!!
Currently, this place is only opened on Thursdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:30pm. So, please call them ahead of time for any further changes ( the number on the museum webpage, not the Google map one).I visited with my 7yr old daughter who read the biography about him which was the reason for this visit. 😁It was very informative about this man, George Washington Carver, with biblical worldview digging in depth on all sorts of plants and crops, creating so many products from the God's creation. Such an honorable man!
TLDR: Frustrating experience to visit. As of Jan '23I'm sure the museum and Tukegee Institute visitor's center are great. However, the experience of trying to visit during current hours of operation was a massive headache.Their hours have recently changed to Thursdays and Fridays only, from 0900-1630. This makes it VERY difficult to visit. Additionally, visitor parking is across the street next to The Oaks Home building which isn't clear on the NPS website. Finally, the main picture on the results for "Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site" is that of The Oaks Home and not the George Washington Carver museum where the main visitor center is located. My advice is to read the fine print on the NPS website and/or NPS app very carefully before attempting a visit.
I love museums and this is a very well done Museum.GW Carver's academic life was presented very well.My young son loved the museum and the displays. There were many exhibits that were educational for me and held my son's attention. The museum entrance is free. This was well worth the visit. It only took about and hour to go through and read nearly all the displays and information plaques.
Historic museum in Tuscegee University campus, showing all contributions. Very educational! Cancellation stations by the door when you enter for Passport programs and nation parks store next to it.This is the National Park Visitor centre for Tuskegee Institute. Also, to note Visitor parking is available across the street behind Ford Motor Company Library.
