Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts is trending, still, after a September interview with Gayle King, surfaced in late October confirming Martin Luther King Jr and his wife, Coretta Scott King, paid the hospital bill for her birth.
According to US Magazine, consultant Zara Rahim publicly shared the footage of Roberts’ admittance following a tweet that went viral saying,
“Martin Luther King Jr paying for [Roberts’] birth is still a little-known fact that sends me,” Rahim wrote. “Today is Julia Roberts’ birthday! 55 years ago MLK and Coretta Scott King paid for her parents’ hospital bill after she was born. Can’t stop thinking about this since I read it. Here she is talking about it.”
During her interview, the 55-year-old actress detailed how it all played out,
“My parents [Walter and Betty Lou Roberts] had a theater school in Atlanta called the Actors and Writers’ Workshop,” Roberts recounted. “And one day Coretta Scott King called my mother and asked if her kids could be part of the school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her kids.”

After the Roberts made room for the King’s children into the program, the two couples developed their own bond. The civil rights leaders were married for 15 years before the icon’s assassination on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee.
