Kansas City Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been one of the highest-paid leads in the National Football League.
Mahomes, whose been in the league since 2017, now knows that contract values are one thing, but winning is vital.
New deals were negotiated this year during the offseason leaving him fourth on the list behind Kyler Murray, Aaron Rodgers, and Deshaun Watson, per ESPN.
However, Mahomes ain’t worried about a thing because he is “set for life.”
“When I signed my deal, I knew I was going to be set for life regardless of how the market [went],” Mahomes said during the Chiefs training camp at Missouri Western State University.
He added,
“You just keep playing. Money is one thing but when you get those Super Bowl rings at the end of your career, I think that’s going to be the thing that you look back on. I think I’ve made enough money on the football field and off of it as well that it won’t matter at the end of the day.
He also said that his financial safety provides for his family, but he still wants to have a “great team” around him.
In 2019, Mahomes became the youngest QB to win the Super Bowl helping the Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers.
As for Arizona Cardinals star quarterback, Kyler Murray. The 24-year-old is the second highest-paid ($46 million) QB in the league after Watson ($46.1 million).
However, it was his agent, Erik Burkhardt, that had fans wondering if Murray was worth the salary cap.
Back in February, Burkhardt released a statement on behalf of his client’s interest in more money in conjunction with financial protection from the team.
“Kyler believes that in order to consistently compete for championships, and ultimately deliver the Valley their first super bowl in 33+ years, there needs to be long-term stability for both the organization and himself. To overtly communicate Kyler’s desire to be the Cardinal’s long-term QB, we sent a detailed contract proposal to the organization, he said.”
Burkhardt continued,
It was important to Kyler that his proposal reflected all of the following: Provides financial protection, is in line with the current QB market that compares his results alongside relevant comps, [and] lowers his 2022-23 salary camp number to allow the cardinals to re-sign other deserving teammates and add additional free agents…”

Murray helped to improve the team’s record since his rookie season. He’s the only player in the league’s history that has 70 passing touchdowns, 3,5000 yards, and 20 rushing touchdowns.
He’s helped to improve the team’s quality throughout each season. The Oklahoma Sooners alum agreed to a five-year, $230.5 million extension with Arizona.
