Issa Rae scored her latest hit this summer with the release of her hit series, “Rap Sh!t!”
The series stars actress, Aida Osman, and rapper, KaMillion, as “Shawna” and “Mia Knight,” respectively; two women wanting more out of life, and opting to make it happen by forming their own rap duo! The first season is done but what does Season 2 hold for Rap Sh!t? Here are our predictions!
Rap Sh!t Season 1 Synopsis, What Happened?
In the first season we saw Shawna and Mia come together–albeit tumultuously at times–to not only create catchy songs, but with the help of their “manager,” Chastity (Jonica Booth) a hustler and pimp, and Mia’s aspiring producer/daughter’s father, Lamont (RJ Tyler), begin to make a name for themselves in their hometown of Miami. However, in the season finale we see the police literally chasing Shawna for participating in identity theft and credit card fraud, while Mia opted to cool things down with Lamont for a ballin’ rapper. Collectively, they manage to land a tour with blackfishing rapper, Reigna Reign (Kat Cunning) thanks to Shawna’s former friend/producer, Francois Boom (Jaboukie Young-White).
Rap Sh!t Season 2 Predictions, What’s Next?
Issa Rae is big on the personal “growth” (in our Kelly Penny voice) of her characters in her series; and that means a few pitfalls. We predict Shawna is going to be arrested for her scamming–briefly–as Francois will bail her out, not wanting her legal issues to jeopardize the tour, but it will go on her criminal record and she will be perceived differently. We also believe somehow she will have to deal with online scrutiny and go viral for the wrong reasons because of this. As you recall, someone was filming her running from the police from across the pool at the hotel. Surely, they posted it. Shawna, you are going to need a great lawyer and publicist, good luck girl!
As for Mia, we predict her relationship with Lamont will only become more complicated as he continues to pine after her and fight for his family by becoming a greater producer to get the material things he believes she wants and needs. Mia and her newfound rap love interest will become a rap power couple, but she may find being with him to be a bit overbearing and the spotlight to be hot and blinding. Will she be his girl or her own woman as her budding rap career continues to rise?
Meanwhile, Chastity will finally learn to become a true manager as she clashes with Francois over what is best for the girls and their marketing. She also will ultimately leave pimping behind as the professional spotlight on her grows as well.
As for Cliff (Devon Terrell) and Shawna, we predict he will come to her aid legally as her shining knight, using his law connections and knowledge to get her charges thrown out. However, whatever relationship is growing between her and Maurice (Daniel Augustin) will stall as she no longer will want to deal with any criminal activities. This will force Maurice to go straight to win her over and clash with Cliff. Shawna will have to make the decision of a lifetime between new love and the familiarity of an old one.
