Teyana Taylor Takes the Lead at ESSENCE Festival of Culture 2026—And She’s Redefining the Experience

When we began shaping the 2026 ESSENCE Festival of Culture presented by Coca-Cola, one question guided every decision: Who should help define not just what happens on stage, but how the entire weekend feels?

The answer was clear—Teyana Taylor.

For 2026, ESSENCE proudly names Teyana Taylor and her creative agency, The Aunties, as Chief Curator—a role that transforms the Festival into a fully immersive, intentional cultural experience from start to finish.

More Than a Headliner—A Cultural Architect

Teyana Taylor’s influence spans music, film, fashion, and visual storytelling. A former ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood honoree, Golden Globe winner, Oscar-nominated actress, and GRAMMY-nominated artist, she brings both creative vision and cultural authority to this role.

Through The Aunties, Taylor has built a reputation for purposeful storytelling and multidimensional artistry—making her uniquely positioned to shape every layer of the Festival.

From July 3–5, 2026, in New Orleans, her imprint will be felt across the entire weekend—from mainstage performances to daytime programming and the moments in between.

“ESSENCE has always been more than a festival—it’s a reunion,” Taylor shares. “I’m a true Auntie—the one who uplifts you, tells you the truth with love, and makes sure you know you belong in every room you enter. That’s the spirit I’m bringing to this experience.”

That spirit becomes the foundation of this year’s Festival—intentional, affirming, and deeply connected.

A ‘Ladies First’ Lineup Sets the Tone

The first wave of the 2026 Evening Concert Series signals a powerful shift—centering women who continue to shape the sound and culture of today.

More talent—and additional curators—will be announced soon, each contributing to a cohesive narrative that extends beyond performances into every conversation and activation.

Beyond the Stage: A Fully Curated Cultural Experience

By day, the Festival expands into a dynamic hub of culture, commerce, and community at the Convention Center—free and open to all attendees.

Experiences include:

  • ESSENCE Food & Wine Festival
  • BEAUTYCON: ESSENCEFEST Edition
  • ESSENCE Film Festival
  • SOKO MRKT marketplace
  • ESSENCE Stage conversations
  • Book Festival @ ESSENCE Authors

This year, for the first time, a unified curatorial vision connects it all—ensuring every experience feels intentional, immersive, and aligned.
