According to The Hollywood Reporter, Trevor Noah will be leaving The Daily Show after hosting for seven years. The announcement was made during Thursday’s episode on the Comedy Central channel.
Noah stated,
“I realized after the seven years, my time is up, but in the most beautiful way,” Noah said. “I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly shitty on the worst days.”
The 38-year-old comedian revealed that during the pandemic, he had a change of heart in terms of exploration of his own life pursuits. He thanked the show’s team and network for allowing him an unforgettable experience that can’t be repeated.
Noah, who is South-African born, debuted as host of the show on Sept. 28, 2015, following the departure of Jon Stewart. The show catapulted him into mainstream success along with minor controversies for his outspoken rhetoric.
While there hasn’t been an exact date given for his leaving, in true fashion, he jokingly stated,
“I’m not disappearing — don’t worry. If I owe you money, I’ll still pay you.”
His opportunities since being on the show included serving as an emcee for the White House Correspondents Dinner in April and as a second-time host for the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
