In The Latest Entertainment News Of All Things Usher

On May 30, it was revealed that Usher will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2024 BET Awards. He joins the ranks of past recipients such as Whitney Houston, Prince, Queen Latifah, Anita Baker, Mary J. Blige, and Samuel L. Jackson. In addition to this prestigious recognition, the Atlanta artist is also up for awards in several categories: Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, Best Collaboration, Video of the Year, and Album of the Year.

Connie Orlando, who serves as the EVP of Specials, Music Strategy and Music Programming for BET, detailed why the “Confessions” singer is deserving of the honor,

“The relationship between BET and Usher spans decades, from his multiple appearances on ‘106 & Park’ to most recently winning the Entertainer of the Year trophy at the 55th NAACP Image Awards,” she said per a press release. “From his chart-topping hits, electrifying performances, and unforgettable vocals to his signature moves and sound, Usher continues to stand on culture, setting new standards for the music industry and Black excellence. We look forward to creating an amazing lineup to pay tribute to our global icon.”

The 2024 BET Awards are set to air live on the East Coast on Sunday, June 30, at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Usher, celebrating three decades in the entertainment industry, is an eight-time Grammy winner, with two Best Contemporary R&B Album awards. He boasts nine No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200. On February 11, he headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, achieving the most-watched performance in history. Two days prior, he released his ninth studio album, *Coming Home*, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. His collaboration with Summer Walker and 21 Savage, “Good Good,” reached the top 25 on the Hot 100 and remained on the chart for over six months.

On March 16, Usher won Outstanding Male Artist at the NAACP Image Awards. It was announced on May 30 that he will receive the ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award at their June 27 event, recognizing top rhythm and soul music songwriters and publishers.
