In Entertainment News Of All Things Silk Sonic
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Bruno Mars of Silk Sonic said,
“We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” he said. “We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.”
Why is Silk Sonic withdrawing from The Grammys?
Silk Sonic’s album has been critically acclaimed. Its lead single, released in April 2021, Leave The Door Open, won four Grammys including Album and Song of The Year. The full album was released in November and was anticipated by many to win Album of The Year.
However, many believe Bruno might be trying to steer clear of the controversy that ensued in 2018 when his album, 24K, beat out iconic hip-hop contenders, Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar for Album of The Year. Jay-Z’s 4:44 album set a new precedent of success for aging rappers (rappers in their forties) and Kendrick’s “DAMN” won a Nobel Prize.
2023’s Grammys are expected to be quite contentious with Beyonce and Adele also as front runners for Album of The Year. As a clear Grammy favorite, he may be making the right decision by avoiding the backlash that could come from a possible win against these two, especially Beyonce.
As it is infamously known, her fans, “The Beyhive,” can be quite vicious and are highly influential with their support of Mrs. Carter, as seen in the backlash Adele received when,
“…We’d be crazy to ask for anything more. Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to ‘Leave The Door Open.’ Everything else was just icing on the cake,” he states. “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform — not once but twice — and awarding us at last year’s ceremony.”
