Lawdy, Lawd Not Tia Mowry, And Cory Hardrict

Update: Tia Mowry took to Instagram and released her own statement amid the pending divorce saying,

“These decisions are never easy, and not without sadness. We will maintain a friendship as we co-parent our beautiful children,” she explained.

“I am grateful for all the happy times we had together and want to thank my friends, family, and fans for your love and support as we start this new chapter moving forward in our lives.”

Actress Tia Mowry filed for divorce from husband Cory Hardrict. The couple wed on April 28, 2008, and has been a favorite and inspirational couple within the Black community, per The Blast.

Based on the legal documents filed, Mowry filed to dissolve the marriage due to “irreconcilable differences” in a Los Angeles County Court. She’s represented by Kim Kardashian’s lawyer, Laura Wasser.

The couple shares two children together, Cree and Cairo. However, the actress asked for joint custody and to eliminate any legalities that could lead to spousal support for both her and Hardrict.

Supposedly, the 44-year-old entered her marriage with a prenuptial agreement detailing its do’s-and-don’ts regarding assets, property, and of course, child support.

One clause in the documents states,

“Pursuant to the parties’Premarital Agreement, all assets and obligations of each party are her/his separate property,” which allows the Sister, Sister alum to maintain her television earnings.

As unfortunate as this is for fans, Mowry and Hardrict gave a lot of people hope after telling their love story on numerous platforms such as OWN network’s Black Love, Essence Magazine, and more.

During an interview, “Med School” (The Game fans know) spoke about going against the grains of traditions in her marriage,

“We’ve never followed what other people thought we should’ve been doing, we’ve always followed what was right for us,” she said.

How Did They Meet

The adored pair met while filming Hollywood Horror. By this time, Mowry had achieved fame and was a household name thanks to Sister, Sister.

However, Hardrict was working to break into the business so his acting credits were still being built from the ground up. He has always recalled how he met the former child star prior to dating for six years,

“I was waiting at the bus stop … [Tia’s] sister and she drove by, they saw me waiting, and asked me to give me a ride,” admitting that he was embarrassed to be seen at the bus stop due to the sketchy part of town he was in.

They would become a couple a year later.

When the couple performed a Q&A for Tia Mowry’s Quick Fix on YouTube, a fan asked what they considered to be the secret to a successful marriage. Mowry said,

“I think the secret to a successful marriage is forgiveness.”
