In The Latest Entertainment News Of Ice Cube
En route to an appearance on Dash Radio in Los Angeles, TMZ was able to get feedback from the west coast rapper regarding the rights to the Friday franchise.
When asked by a reporter if Cube could write a similar script but with a different day, Cube said,
“You got to use the same IP. So, you can’t call it Saturday without using Craig and Day Day.”
During an interview on Mike Tyson’s podcast, “Hotboxin,” Cube detailed that he asked Warner Brothers to give him the full rights over the film. However, he was met with pushback,
“I don’t know. Warner Brothers is weird right now,” Cube said when asked about the fourth “Friday” movie, which is to be titled “Last Friday. I don’t know what they’re doing. They don’t know what they’re doing. We’d love to have it back.”
He added,
I think it’s going to be close to a time when we get it back. So, we’ll either wait for that time or keep trying to convince them that they need to let us control the movie. It’s my movie, but they have distribution control.”
Whether or not the new Friday film will ever see the light of day, the 53-year-old actor remained optimistic but wants Warner Brothers to churn out a Spike Lee outcome and “do the right thing.”
While the option to sue is not in the cards for Cube, he admitted to Tyson that he has no interest in purchasing the rights,
“I ain’t putting s–t up for it. F—k no. They need to give it to me, and [they’ll] make money. I’m not about to pay for my own stuff, that’s stupid. They need to do the right thing, get it to us, let us turn it into more money, and make the fans happy…We can do a lot with it.”
